Prof. Dr. Andreas Wirsching

Andreas Wirsching, born in 1959, is director of the Leibniz Institute for Contemporary History Munich-Berlin and holder of the Chair of Modern History at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich.

Prof. Wirsching is a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Deputy Chairman of the Commission for the History of Parliamentarism and Political Parties (Berlin).

His research interests include comparative German and French history in the 20th century, the history of the Weimar Republic, communism, fascism and National Socialism 1918-1945, German and European history since the 1970s, and the history and theory of modernity.
